Put Your Mind at Ease – 2 Tips for a Smooth Transition Abroad

Put Your Mind at Ease – 2 Tips for a Smooth Transition Abroad

Moving abroad can trigger stress, loneliness and homesickness, especially at the beginning of your life abroad. A new life abroad affects your mental health and emotions. Those of us who have been in your shoes know this well.

The good news is there are easy ways to minimize any potential struggles abroad and create the overseas life you’ve been dreaming of!

Remember:

Taking care of your mental health while living abroad is just as important as packing right or speaking the language. This will help you cope with any low points.

New city, new MINDSET

The “power of positive thinking” can feel cliché, but it’s legit! Numerous scientific studies prove that positive thinking can give you more confidence, improve your mood, and even reduce depression and other stress-related disorders.

When you put yourself through the stress of change and the vulnerability of living without your support system you might feel nervous or easily annoyed. Gift yourself a positive mindset about a smooth transition and all the magic you’ll create.

Use these tips for a smooth transition with minimal mind chatter as you create your life abroad.

Start the day with positive affirmations. This will block any possible negative emotions or pessimistic views of your life abroad. Here are a few of my favourites:

I have the power to create change

I refuse to give up because I haven’t tried all possible ways.

I have control over my thoughts, feelings and choices.

I live in the moment while learning from the past and preparing for the future.

I strive to be open-minded.

I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

Find humor in everything. Poke fun at the humor in challenging situations abroad. Remember, this will make a great story later.

Find positive friends & mentors abroad. By surrounding yourself with positive people, you’ll be flooded with their positive outlooks, stories and affirmations. Need help building your positivity squad? Grab right my guide now here.

New city, new ROUTINE

Lock in a smooth transition abroad with a new routine. Your new life will require this anyway, so be intentional and have fun.

Make a plan, including the mundane, like running and laundry, as well as things you love, like yoga and grocery shopping. This will give you a sense of control and boost your mental health abroad.

The right daily habits give us energy and the right mindset to tackle whatever comes at us in our life abroad.

Expat Tip: Mental health is a critical component of self care to ensure a smooth transition abroad.
